Love You // Gym Struggles

As part of my ‘Love You’ series I wanted to talk about how I got into fitness and how I’m sticking too it. I joined the gym just before christmas went once and that was that. I hated it. I felt like I was being judged for not running on the treadmill, that I wasn’t the right size to be at the gym, or that I wasn’t wearing the right things. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who feels this way. I knew that after the new year I was going to aim to go at least three times a week, to build up my fitness levels and help me lose weight.

Once christmas was over I was back to the gym, it was super busy the first time we went. So I plugged in my head phones and got on with my work out. Spending 45 minutes on the treadmill, moving from a steady walk, to an incline walk, slowly into a jog. I felt a little more comfortable leaving, knowing I had got myself up to a jog. But next time I wanted to use other equipment and really push myself. To get away from the hustle and bustle of the rush hour we decided to head to the gym later. It was so much better, it was so quite I felt like I could try different machines out and ended up spending just over an hour. I walked out feeling on top of the world. Now I was over my fear of the gym it was time to push myself.

To start with I fast walked on an incline for 45 minutes, the next time I pushed it too an hour. Then eventually I warmed up with a speedy walk and then slowly got into a run. I’m still pushing myself to run faster and for longer but I have finally got there. The first time I ran I got home in agony, my legs hurt, my body ached.  But I knew it was for the best. This kept me going and made each time a lot easier to push myself. Now I go with the confidence that I can do more than last time, that I can push myself to really hit my limits.

My plan for the gym is once I’m at a weight and size that I am happy and confident with is to then move onto weight lifting. I don’t want to grow gigantic muscles, but I have found something that I love and want to keep going with that.

This is so true! Many people feel like this! I’ve been going for the last few months (apart from christmas) it can be daunting, but go you for getting back to it! 🙂
