Its October and that means its nearly Halloween! WAHoooo. Halloween’s not my favorite holiday but its still fun! If it means that I get to dress up, bake goodies and decorate im gunna love it! The first thing I like to do to get myself in the mood for Halloween is watch scary movies and you can’t watch a movie without having treats can you! I though id show you how I like to bake cakes ready to watch all the scary movies! To start with youll need to clean down your surface which youll be working on and of course wash your hands, we cant be having dirty hands when where baking can we!
Ingredients:
For the cake
- 6oz Caster Sugar
- 6oz Margerine
- 6oz Self-Raising Flour
- 3 Eggs
For the Icing
- Icing Sugar
- Butter
- Food Colouring
- Decorations
Tools
- 2 Bowls
- Electric Whisk
- Spoon
- Cake Tray
- Wire Wrack
To start youll need to pre-heat your oven to 160 (fan oven), then place your Caster Sugar and Margerine in a bowl and whisk it until it is a smooth, creamy texture. Then you need to add your sifted flour and egg to the mixture a little at a time until it is all gone, again youll be whisking this. Put your cake cases into your cake tray and add the mixture to the cases making sure they all have the same amount in. I decided half way through that I would add orange food colouring to the mixutre but this is totally up to you. You could also add sprinkles into your mixture if you want, the choice is yours! Pop these in the oven for 15 minutes, check them after 15 minutes by popping in a knife or skewer if it comes out clean and the tops of the cake are golden they are done. If not pop them back in the oven for 2 minutes at a time checking them. Leave them too cool on a wire rack, I had more mixture left so I just popped them into the cake cases and popped these in the oven too. Wait until these are cool and then move onto your icing.
I placed all the sprinkles into little bowls just to make it easier to place them on the cakes. I took a spoon full of butter ( sorry I didnt weigh it!) and double the amount of icing sugar, I whisked this together adding more and more icing sugar if needed. Once it was all mixed together I then put half the mixture in a bowl added green food colouring to one and orange to the other. I took the cakes and spooned on the icing, picking the sprinkles for the top and then placed them on the cake plate. Now its time to make a yummy hot chocolate, sit back, pop on your scary movie and enjoy!
What do you like to make at Halloween?
